Fire Protection Equipment

When determining the class of fire extinguishers that is required it depends on where they will be installed and the potential fire hazards and the class of fire that may occur.

  • Class A and Class B Extinguishers The more you know about fire extinguisher classes, the easier it’ll be to manage fire issues in your building. With a Class A fire extinguisher, you’ll be able to handle typical fires that are rooted in carbon-based materials. These extinguishers put out fires that involve wood, paper, and textiles. Class B fire extinguishers deal with caustic fluids. Some of these fluids include petrol and diesel fuel.

  • Class C and Class D Extinguishers, The Class C fire extinguisher put out fires that are the result of gases. Some of these gases might include methane and butane. Class D fire extinguishers involve fires that were started due to burning metals. The burning metals that these extinguishers put out include magnesium and aluminium.

  • Class F and Class K fire extinguishers are also among the most common. With a Class F extinguisher, you are dealing with kitchen and restaurant-related fires. A Class F fire extinguisher deals with cooking oils and animal product-based greases. Every kitchen needs to have these extinguishers, along with fire suppression systems. Class K fire extinguishers also deal with cooking-related fires that spring out due to vegetable oils and animal product oils. These extinguishers are important if you have a commercial kitchen and need to protect your restaurant business.

  • Class E Extinguishers, You should also remain up to date with Class E fire extinguishers. With one of these models, you’re getting an extinguisher that is designed to put out electrical fires. These fires come about due to sparks and other issues with electrical equipment. Without a Class E fire extinguisher, you are more likely to make the fire issue even worse if you don’t use these models. The Class E extinguisher utilises dry powder as opposed to wet liquid suppressants.

Hose Reels & Hydrants

We supply, install and service all fire extinguishers and hose reels according to the SABS Regulations. We can assist with site inspections and supply you with the correct equipment accordingly. We also perform annual servicing and each client is supplied with a fire register, site report and compliance certificate as required by the SABS Regulations.

Symbolic Safety Fire Signage

We supply and install framed symbolic safety signs, photo luminescent fire and evacuation signage. Signage is important in directing people to the safety equipment and escape routes during an emergency, and is required as per SANS 1186-1 Regulations for all buildings. We can assist clients with an inspection, as well as supply and install the relevant signage that is required for your particular premises. All our fire & directional signage is SABS approved and displays the permit number.

Fire Blankets

In case of any fire, a fire blanket comes in handy to contain and extinguish a fire. Fire blankets are ideal for small fires that may occur in the home or the work place. In some cases, the blanket can also be used to kill fire on clothing and protect the body against heat burns.

Fire Exit Door Locks

In case of any fire, you need a trustworthy and easily accessible fire escape route. We supply and install fire exit door locks that are easy to open in case of any emergency. We supply a push bar type lock that can be pushed open easily if needed. Fire doors hinder the spread of fire and when opened, provide a means of escape.

Fire-Stops

A fire stop or fire-stopping is a form of passive fire protection that is used to seal around openings and between joints in a fire-resistance-rated wall or floor assembly. Fire stops are designed to maintain the fireproofing of a wall or floor assembly allowing it to impede the spread of fire and smoke.

Sprinklers

Khulani Fire designs, install and maintain a range of sprinkler systems to suit the requirements of our clients’ facilities.

We work closely with our clients to assess their needs and their facility layout and usage. We offer a range of different sprinkler systems to suit a variety of environments.

In many situations, a traditional wet sprinkler system is ideal. These systems are permanently charged with water and when the heat of a fire rises to the high level of the sprinkler heads, this heat causes the bulb or the fusible link within the sprinkler head to break, triggering the release of the water. Not all sprinkler heads are activated in these systems, but only those that are over the area of the fire. These systems provide great water coverage to control or extinguish the fire whilst minimising water damage.

In warehousing and factory environments where there are large areas of racking, Khulani Fire also offer in-rack sprinkler systems that are designed specifically for use in these situations.
